SYMPTOMS

When you create a share name for a folder, it is not required that the share name be the same as the folder name. If after you share a folder you want to change the share name, you cannot edit the share name in the properties for the share in Windows Explorer or the Shared Folders management console.

RESOLUTION

To change a folder's share name:
  1. In Windows Explorer, right-click the shared folder whose share name you want to change, and then click Sharing.
  2. On the Sharing tab, click New Share.
  3. Type the appropriate information in the Share Name and Comment boxes, and set the appropriate permissions.
  4. Click OK.
  5. On the Sharing tab, click the original share in the Share Name box, and then click Remove Share. The folder is now shared with the share name you created in step 3.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
