OL2000: Next and Previous Unavailable Using Code to Display Item (206713)

SYMPTOMS

When you display a Microsoft Outlook item using Microsoft Visual Basic or Visual Basic Scripting Edition (VBScript), you are not able to use the Next or Previous commands to move to the next or previous items in the folder.

CAUSE

This is a limitation of Microsoft Outlook forms.

If you manually open the item (without using code), the commands are available and perform as expected.

   Set ol = New Outlook.Application
   Set olns = ol.GetNamespace("MAPI")

   ' Set MyInbox to the user's default Inbox.
   Set MyInbox = olns.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderInbox)

   ' Display the Inbox.
   MyInbox.Display

After running this sample code to display an Outlook message, if you then point to Next or Previous on the View menu, the commands will be unavailable (dimmed).
