WD98: Documentation Errors in Word 98 Business Templates (206434)

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition includes Business Tools and Templates, which you can install from the Value Pack. Two of these templates contain instructions for editing Word 98 documents that do not correctly correspond with the Word 98 user interface or are unclear. These documentation errors were discovered after the program was released.

If these templates are installed on your computer, they can be displayed by clicking New on the File menu, clicking the appropriate tab, and then double-clicking the template icon. The templates are:
  • Business Report, on the Management tab. and

  • Business Newsletter, on the Marketing tab.
Please note the corrections to these templates in the "More Information" section of this article.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Errors in the Business Report Template

  • On page 2, the second bulleted list, which begins "To delete a text box..." should read as follows:
    • "To delete a text box, click the text box to reveal the frame, and then click the frame border. Press DELETE.
    • To save the text box for future use, click it to reveal the frame, and then point to AutoText on the Insert menu. Click New, and then type a new name for the AutoText entry, if necessary, and then click OK.
    • To delete a graphic, click the graphic, and then press DELETE."
  • On page 3, under Inserting a Graphic, the paragraph should read as follows:

    Inserting a Graphic
    To insert a graphic, point to Picture on the Insert menu, and then click the graphic type that you want. You can insert Clip Art, pictures from other programs and locations, AutoShapes, WordArt, and Charts.

Errors in the Business Newsletter Template

  • On page 1, the second paragraph of Column 2, which begins "There are several section breaks in this template," should read as follows:

    "There are several section breaks in this template. To create additional section breaks, use the Break command. If nonprinting characters are turned on, you can identify breaks by the double, dotted lines. If the nonprinting characters are not visible, select the Hidden text option under Nonprinting Characters (Tools-Preferences-View). To insert a section break, click Break on the Insert menu, and then select Continuous."

  • On Page 3, under the question "How do I add a graphic to my newsletter?", the answer should read as follows:

    ANSWER
    To insert a graphic, point to Picture on the Insert menu, and then click the graphic type that you want. You can insert Clip Art, pictures from other programs and locations, AutoShapes, WordArt, and Charts.
