WD98: Font in the Style Definition Changes When You Open a Rich Text Format Document (206332)

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Rich Text Format (RTF) document, the font in the style definition has changed.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following are both true:
  • The document was created in Microsoft Word 98 or Microsoft Word 97.

    -and-
  • The document was opened in Microsoft Word 6.0 or Microsoft Word 95.
This occurs because of a problem with the Word 6.0/95 Export Converter.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, select the text that is incorrectly formatted, and then select the correct font in the Font box on the toolbar.

You can also change the font in the default Style using the following steps:
  1. On the Format menu, click Style.
  2. Click Modify.
  3. Click Format, and then click Font.
  4. Select the font that you want to use, and then click OK.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
