This article was previously published under Q204454

SYMPTOMS

When you use the WordBasic.Selection$() command in Visual Basic for Applications and the current selection includes text in a table cell, the value returned is an empty value when the end of cell marker is selected.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft provides programming examples for illustration only, without warranty either expressed or implied. This includes, but is not limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. This article assumes that you are familiar with the programming language that is being demonstrated and with the tools that are used to create and to debug procedures. Microsoft support engineers can help explain the functionality of a particular procedure, but they will not modify these examples to provide added functionality or construct procedures to meet your specific requirements.
To resolve this problem, replace the WordBasic.Selection$() command with the equivalent Visual Basic for Applications command, Selection.Text.

Note that using Selection.Text may return the end of cell marker. To avoid returning the end of cell marker, you can use the following example command line:
' Remove table cell markers from selected text.
sCellText = Left$(Selection.Text, Len(Selection.Text) - 2)

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
