Valid Account Cannot Open Sub Web When Root Web is Restricted (201845)
The information in this article applies to:
- FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions from Microsoft
This article was previously published under Q201845 SYMPTOMS
After setting Only Registered Users Have Browse Access
on the root Web, authors cannot open sub Webs with valid accounts when
they do not have at least Browse access to the root Web.
CAUSE
When you set Only Registered Users Have Browse Access
on the root Web, authors that do not have Browse permission on the root
Web cannot open sub Webs. The reason for this is that authors of sub Webs
need access to FrontPage configuration files in the root Web.
WORKAROUND
In order for authors to open sub Webs that reside below a root Web that is
set with Only Registered Users Have Browse Access, add
the author of the sub Web with Browse permission to the root Web. To do
this, use the following steps:
- Open the root Web of the virtual server in FrontPage.
- On the Tools menu, click Security, then click
Permissions.
- On the Users tab, click Add.
- Add the account that has Author access on the sub Web with a
minimum of Browse access.
- Click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions.
