256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry

Advanced: Requires expert coding, interoperability, and multiuser skills.

SYMPTOMS

If you manually change the string "DataCodePage" in the Registry key
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engines\Xbase

to anything other than "OEM" or "ANSI" and try to export using the dBASE 5 ISAM driver, you receive the following error message:
Invalid setting in EXCEL key of the Engines section of the Windows Registry.

CAUSE

An error is expected when you set the "DataCodePage" string value to something other than "OEM" or "ANSI," which are the only valid options; however, the error message does not refer to the correct Jet ISAM. It should be Xbase instead of Excel.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
