Missing Task Scheduler Icon After Installing Internet Explorer 5 (201563)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 for Windows 98

This article was previously published under Q201563

SYMPTOMS

After you install Internet Explorer 5 Beta, the Task Scheduler icon may no longer appear on the taskbar, but all your scheduled tasks may continue to run normally.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Internet Explorer 5 Beta Setup updates Task Scheduler-related registry entries and the Mstask.exe file. These modifications result in the Task Scheduler icon being removed from the taskbar.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, install the final release version of Internet Explorer 5.

To work around this behavior, double-click My Computer, double-click Scheduled Tasks, and then add, delete, or modify your scheduled tasks.

For more information about how to use Task Scheduler, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type task scheduler, and then double-click the Task Scheduler topic.
