How to install the MSN MoneyCentral stock ticker on the Windows Active Desktop (201440)

To install the MoneyCentral ticker on the Active Desktop, use one of the following methods:

Install the Ticker from the Active Desktop Gallery

1. Right-click the location on your Desktop where you want to put the ticker, point to Active Desktop, and then click Customize My Desktop.
2. Make sure that the View My Active Desktop as a Web page check box is selected.
3. Click New.
   
   If you are prompted to visit the Active Desktop Gallery, click Yes. If you are not prompted to visit the Active Desktop Gallery, type the following Web address in the Location box:

   http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/gallery

4. Click Add to Active Desktop.

Note The ticker in the Active Desktop Gallery may be older than the most current MSN MoneyCentral ticker control. If you receive an error message that states that the ticker is not able to access your portfolio, proceed to the next method to create a new Active Desktop item from the latest version of the ticker.

Manually Create a Ticker Object from the HTML Code

To install the MoneyCentral ticker on the Active Desktop, follow these steps:

1. Visit the following MSN Web site, and then copy the HTML code that appears on the page to add the Ticker "Object":

   http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/external/invapps.asp

2. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Notepad.
3. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
4. On the File menu, click Save As.
5. In the File Name box, type the following line, and then click Save

   drive:\windows\ticker.htm

   where drive is the drive letter of the hard disk on which Windows is installed.
6. Quit Notepad.
7. Click Start, point to Settings, point to Active Desktop, and then click Customize My Desktop.
   
   Note If you do not see Active Desktop on the Settings menu, you must install the Windows Active Desktop Update.
8. On the Web tab, verify that the View my Active Desktop as a Web Page check box is selected.
9. Click New.
   
   If you are prompted to view the Active Desktop Gallery, click No.
10. Click Browse.
11. In the File Name box, type the following line, and then click Open

    drive:\windows\ticker.htm

    where drive is the drive letter of the hard disk on which Windows is installed.
12. Click OK, and then click OK again.

The MoneyCentral ticker appears on the desktop. If you are connected to the Internet, the MoneyCentral ticker downloads current stock quotes and news headlines automatically.
