ACC2000: Select Data Source Dialog Reads Floppy and CD-ROM Drives Repeatedly (201268)

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).
SYMPTOMS
While choosing an ODBC datasource to link to, import from, or export to, you may see your computer's A, B, and CD-ROM drives read repeatedly.
CAUSE
In the ODBC Datasource Administrator, the default directory on the File DSN tab is set to My Computer.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- In Microsoft Windows, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click ODBC Data Sources.
- Click the File DSN tab.
- Under Look in, change the default directory to the following:
Program Files\Common Files\ODBC\Data Sources\
NOTE: The Program Files directory is usually on the same drive where
Microsoft Access 2000 is located.
- Click Set Directory, and then click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
