ACC2000: Toolbar Changes May Not Be Saved with Multi-Users (201246)

This article was previously published under Q201246 Advanced: Requires expert coding, interoperability, and multiuser skills.
SYMPTOMS
When multiple users use a Microsoft Access database, changes they make to a custom toolbar (not a built-in toolbar) may not be saved when the
database is closed.
If you are one of the multiple users in a database, and you begin editing a
custom toolbar, you may receive the following message:
You do not have exclusive access to the database at this time. If you proceed to make changes, you may not be able to save them later.
At this point, you are allowed to make the changes and to close the Customize dialog box. Later, when you close the database, Microsoft Access tries to save the toolbar changes, but if it cannot get an exclusive lock when the database closes, the changes are lost without warning.
CAUSE
Microsoft Access cannot save changes to a custom toolbar if you do not have
an exclusive lock on the database. An exclusive lock means that there are
no other open instances of the database.
