WD98: Documents Saved as Word 6.x Retain the Word 98 Icon (200772)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q200772 SYMPTOMS
When you save a Microsoft Word 98 document as a Microsoft Word for the Macintosh version 6.x document, the document icon may look like a Word 98 document icon. If this occurs, some non-Microsoft programs have difficulty opening this kind of file.
CAUSE
Microsoft Word 98 does not change the file type to Microsoft Word for the Macintosh version 6.x when it replaces a Word 98 file of the same name.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, when you save a Word 98 document as a Microsoft Word for the Macintosh version 6.x document, do not replace the existing Word 98 document with the new document. Give the new Word for the Macintosh version 6.x document a different name. When the document is saved as a different name, the problem does not occur.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Word 98 for Macintosh.
