SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Access Help Topic "What Name AutoCorrect fixes and doesn't fix in an Access database" states the following:

You can save changes to an object if you have permissions to modify the design of the object, you have write access to the database, and you have exclusive access to make changes.

This information is incomplete. You cannot use the Name Autocorrect feature in a Microsoft Access Design Master or a Replica even if you are the owner of the object and have full permissions in the Design Master.

CAUSE

When you replicate a database initially and create the Design Master, the Name AutoCorrect feature is turned off. When the feature is turned off and then a replica is created, the replica inherits all attributes of the Design Master. There is no way to reactivate the Name Autocorrect feature in a replica or the Design Master.

RESOLUTION

You must make the changes to the object names manually, and then synchronize to have the changes corrected.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

CAUTION: If you follow the steps in this example, you modify the sample database Northwind.mdb. You may want to back up the Northwind.mdb file and follow these steps on a copy of the database.

  1. Open the sample database, Northwind.mdb.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Replication, and then click Create Replica.
  3. When prompted to close the database, click Yes.
  4. When prompted to make a backup of your database, click Yes.
  5. Leave the default location for the replica and the default file name (Replica of Northwind) and click OK.
  6. When you receive the warning about the Design Master, click OK.
  7. Close the Design Master.
  8. Open the replica.
  9. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click General.
Note that the Name Autocorrect feature is missing.

If you close the replica and re-open the Design Master, the Name Autocorrect feature is also missing.
