SYMPTOMS

When you click a button on the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar (OSB), the program may not start; Quick View may start instead.

CAUSE

This problem will occur if the computer's registry contains the following key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\QuickView

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.


To resolve this problem, you must remove the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\QuickView registry key. However, you should first save a copy of the registry key. To do this, use the following steps:

  1. Click Start, and click Run.
  2. Type regedit, and click OK.
  3. Select the following registry key:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\QuickView

  4. On the Registry menu, click Export Registry File.
  5. Type a new file name and click Save.
  6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
