Some media clips that were created after Microsoft PowerPoint 97 released may not play properly when you insert them into PowerPoint. If Windows Media Player 6.0 or later is installed, you can play clips with the Microsoft Windows Media Player Control. The Microsoft Windows Media Player Control often can handle clips that PowerPoint cannot.

To play media clips in PowerPoint 97 using the Windows Media Player Control:
  1. On the View menu, point to Toolbars, then click Control Toolbox.
  2. On the Control Toolbox toolbar, click the More Controls button.
  3. In the list of controls, click Windows Media Player.
  4. Draw a box on the slide with your mouse pointer.
  5. On the Control Toolbox toolbar, click the Properties button.
  6. Type the path and name of the file you want to play in the FileName box of the Properties window, for example:

    c:\windows\desktop\mymovie.avi

  7. Click in another Properties box to set the path name.
The media clip now plays automatically when you view the slide. You can also change other properties of the clip here, such as looping and size.
