PRJ98: Resource Graph Bars Print Outside of Graph View (199500)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q199500

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you print or print preview the Resource Graph view, the graph bars may be printed outside of the graph area (on the y-axis), for example in the header or footer area.

NOTE: In addition to bars in the Resource Graph view you may see this behavior when you use Area, Step, Line and Step Line to display your data.

CAUSE

The problem may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:

  1. A resource is assigned to more than one task. The Current Date + the maximum task elapsed duration * number of resources > End of Time (December 31, 2049)More than 14 resources are assigned to tasks in the project.
  2. The Current Date + the maximum task elapsed duration * number of resources > End of Time (December 31, 2049)More than 14 resources are assigned to tasks in the project.
  3. More than 14 resources are assigned to tasks in the project.
For example, suppose you have a 1,000-day task and 16 resources. Also, suppose weekends are non-working. Entering these values into the formula in condition 2, you get Current Date + (1000 days * (7/5)) * 16 resources = 22,400 days. (The 7/5 represents five of seven days per week). Take 22,400/365 days = 61+ years. Add the 61+ years to 1999 and you exceed December 31, 2049.

WORKAROUND

There is currently no known workaround for this issue.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

When you use a resource pool project, you may see different results depending on whether you print or print preview from the resource pool, or from a project that is sharing the resource pool.
