Disabled Device Settings May Not Be Retained During Upgrade (198868)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

This article was previously published under Q198868

SYMPTOMS

Hardware devices that have been marked as disabled in Device Manager in Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98 may be enabled when you upgrade to Windows 2000.

CAUSE

Because of the differences between the Windows 95/98 and Windows 2000 architectures, hardware detection and enumeration must be performed on all devices by Windows 2000. Therefore, all devices are detected during Setup, regardless of their status before upgrading.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
