SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to attach a sound effect to an object in a project, you may receive one of the following error messages:
You can only select a sound clip that has the file extension WAV. Please select a sound clip that looks like this from Clip Gallery.

No WAV sound file can be found in Clip Gallery.
When you attempt to add a sound effect to a project's background, you may receive one of the following error messages:
You can only select a sound clip that has the file extension WAV since you can only have one RMI or MID sound clip on the background. Please select a sound clip that looks like this from Clip Gallery.

No WAV sound file can be found in Clip Gallery.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur for the following reasons:

  • You are attempting to select a MIDI (.mid) sound file to attach to an object in the project.

    Because of the way Microsoft Internet Explorer embeds sound clips in a project, you can only attach wave audio sound files to objects. You can only attach MIDI sound files to a project's background.
  • You are attempting to add a MIDI sound file to the project's background and the background already has an associated MIDI sound file.

    Because of the way in which Internet Explorer embeds sound clips, only one MIDI sound file can be attached to a project's background.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method.

Attach a MIDI Sound File to an Object in the Project

To play a MIDI sound file when an object in your project is displayed, follow these steps:

  1. Click to select the object you want to associate with a MIDI file.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Cut.
  3. Under Main Options, click Add Something, and then click A New Page.
  4. Under Location, click After Current Page.
  5. Under Content, click Background From Current Page, and then click OK.
  6. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
  7. Click anywhere outside the object border to remove the selection.
  8. Under Main Options, click Add Something, click A Sound, and then click To The Background.
  9. Follow the instructions in the Background Effects And Sounds dialog box to add the MIDI sound you want to the object.
When the new page is displayed, the sound is played at the same time the object is displayed.

Add a Different MIDI Sound File to the Project Background

To change the MIDI sound file associated with your project's background, follow these steps:

  1. Open your project.
  2. Under Main Options, click Change Something, and then click Background Effects And Sounds.
  3. At the top of the dialog box, click Sound Effects.
  4. In the list of associated sound files, click the MIDI sound file that is currently associated with the background, and then click Delete.
  5. Click Add or Browse to locate the background sound file you want.
  6. After you have selected the sound file you want to associate with the background, click OK.

NOTE: If any of the error messages listed in the "Symptoms" section of this article remain on the screen for more than a few minutes, you may receive the following error message:
This action cannot be completed because the "Clip Gallery" program is not responding. Click the appropriate button on the task bar to activate the program and correct the problem.
If you click Cancel, nothing happens. If you click Retry, you close the error messages.
