The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 98

This article was previously published under Q198405

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the Ext.exe program on the Windows 98 Startup disk to extract files from the Mini.cab, Precopy1.cab, or Precopy2.cab file on the Windows 98 CD-ROM, you may receive the following error message:
No matching files.

CAUSE

The Ext.exe program does not search these cabinet (.cab) files by default.

RESOLUTION

To extract a file from the Mini.cab, Precopy1.cab, or Precopy2.cab file using Ext.exe, type "ext <cabfile>" (without quotation marks) at the command prompt, where <cabfile> is the name of the cabinet file from which you want to extract a file. For example, to extract a file from the Mini.cab file, type "ext mini.cab." You are then prompted for the location of the Windows 98 .cab files and the name of the file you want to extract.
