SUMMARY

When you use PowerPoint to save a presentation, the option to Embed TrueType Fonts is not available for all of the supported file formats. Because of this, you may find that the text in presentation appears differently when you view it on another system, or in a different version of PowerPoint.

PowerPoint can save presentations in a variety of PowerPoint file formats, as well as graphics formats. The ability to Embed TrueType fonts is only supported for some of the presentation formats which support Unicode fonts.

The formats which do not support the Embed TrueType Fonts option include the following:
  • PowerPoint 95 (*.ppt)
  • PowerPoint 4.0 (*.ppt)
  • Design Templates (*.pot)
  • PowerPoint AddIn (*.ppa)
  • GIF Graphics Interchange Format (*.GIF)
  • JPEG File Interchange Format (*.JPG)
  • PNG Portable Graphics Interchange Format (*.PNG)
  • Device Independent Bitmap (*.BMP)
  • Windows Metafile (*.WMF)
  • Outline/RTF (*.RTF)
  • Tag Image File Format (*.TIF)
The file formats which do support the Embed TrueType Fonts option include the following:
  • Presentation
  • Web Page (*.htm; *.html)
  • PowerPoint 97-2000 & 95 Presentation (*.PPT)
  • PowerPoint Show (*.pps)
NOTE: For the PowerPoint 97-2000 & 95 Presentation file format, the embedded font is only available when you view it in either PowerPoint 2000 or PowerPoint 97.

For the supported file formats you can embed TrueType fonts by following these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Save As.
  2. Choose one of the file types that support font embedding.
  3. Click Tools, and then click Embed TrueType Fonts.
NOTE:TrueType fonts can be embedded only if they have no license restrictions and are Unicode based. If a font cannot be embedded (for example, it is not marked as being editable or installable) a message appears to tell you why.

NOTE: If you save a presentation with embedded fonts, the file size of your presentation is increased.

PowerPoint 2000 supports Edit-level TrueType font embedding. If you open a presentation that contains embedded fonts which are not already installed on your system, you can use those fonts on other text within the same presentation, but you cannot use them in other presentations.
