When you attempt to run modem diagnostics on a 3Com Megahertz 10/100
LAN+56K Modem PC Card after resuming your Dell laptop computer from
Standby mode, you may receive the following error message:
Couldn't open port.
CAUSE
This probem can occur if you run modem diagnostics prior to your computer
going into Standby mode.
RESOLUTIONA supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows 98 that contains this hotfix.
