The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.5 for Macintosh
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 for Macintosh
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 for Macintosh
This article was previously published under Q198268 SYMPTOMS
When you try to use any of the features of the Microsoft virtual machine
(Microsoft VM) for Macintosh in Internet Explorer for Macintosh, you may be
unable to do so.
CAUSE
This issue can occur because Microsoft does not include a virtual machine in
Internet Explorer 4.5 for Macintosh.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, configure your computer to use the Apple Macintosh
OS Runtime Java (MRJ) virtual machine. For information about how to do so, view the
documentation included with your computer, or contact Apple.
MORE INFORMATION
When you upgrade from a version of Internet Explorer that installed the
Microsoft VM, the Microsoft virtual machine remains active.
If you upgrade to Apple OS 8.5, you may have the Microsoft VM listed
as a choice in the Java Preferences setting, but it is not used even if it
is selected.
NOTE: The Apple MRJ is the only option for computers with Apple OS 8.5.
