SUMMARY

When Ripping a Publisher PostScript output file to certain imagesetters, imagesetter applications, and certain impositioning software, you may receive some offending command errors. The errors received may vary, but the reasons for the errors are usually the same.

Within all PostScript Drivers, there is a setting field called PostScript Output format. By default this field is set as PostScript (Optimized for Speed). This particular setting produces unrecognizable entries in the postscript file. To avoid unnecessary errors, it is best to change this setting from PostScript (Optimized for Speed) to PostScript (Optimize for portability - ADSC).

Steps to change PostScript driver settings


  1. Open the publication you are trying to output as a PostScript file in Microsoft Publisher 2000.
  2. On the File menu, click Print Setup.
  3. In the Print Setup dialog box, select the PostScript output device you are planning to output this publication to.
  4. Click Properties. The properties of the printing device you selected in step 3 should appear.
  5. Click the PostScript Tab.
  6. Click PostScript (Optimize for portability - ADSC) from the PostScript output format drop down list.

Steps to output a Publisher file as a PostScript file


  1. Open the publication you are trying to output as a PostScript file in Microsoft Publisher 2000.
  2. On the File menu, click Print.
  3. In the Print Setup dialog box, select the PostScript output device you are planning to output this publication to.

    NOTE: As mentioned earlier within this article, it would be best to set the PostScript output format field for the PostScript driver you are printing to with PostScript (Optimize for portability - ADSC).
  4. Place a check in the Print to File check box.
  5. Click OK.
  6. A Print to File dialog box will appear, asking for the name and directory in which you would like to save the file to. By default the file be saved with a .prn file extension. You will need to save the file out with a .ps file extension.

    Note: The PostScript file is nothing more than a printing language. You will not be able to do much once the file has been exported into a PostScript file format. This is by design.
