SYMPTOMS

When you change property values (such as phone number or networking protocol information) of a Dial-Up Networking connection in the Dial-Up Networking folder, these changes are not applied to a copy of this connection on the desktop.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because when you change the properties of a Dial-Up Networking connection in the Dial-Up Networking folder, only the following changes are applied to a copy of this connection on the desktop:
  • Name
  • Password

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue if other changes are required, use one of the following methods:
  • Make needed changes to the original Dial-Up Networking connection in the Dial-Up Networking folder. Then, drag the modified connection to the appropriate folder. When you are prompted to replace the existing file, click Yes.
  • Create a shortcut to the Dial-Up Networking connection by dragging the icon while holding the right mouse button. Click Create shortcut here. Make the needed changes to the original Dial-Up Networking connection in the Dial-Up Networking folder.

MORE INFORMATION

If you have moved the Dial-Up Networking connection from the Dial-Up Networking folder, you must move it back to the Dial-Up Networking folder to change any properties except the user name and password.

To permanently change the phone number in the Dial-Up Networking connection, right-click the connection, click Properties, change the number, and then click OK.
