Virtual Globe 99 Err Msg: Unable to Load the Resource.dll (198165)

SYMPTOMS

When you click Organize Favorites on the Favorites menu in Encarta Virtual Globe 99 and then right-click a shortcut in the Favorites folder, a preview of the Favorite may be displayed as a black square, and you may receive the following error message:
Unable to load the resource.dll.
If you right-click the shortcut again, you do not receive the error message.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you attempt to display a preview of a shortcut to an Encarta Virtual Globe 99 map.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, disable the View As Web Page feature in the Encarta Virtual Globe 99 Favorites folder. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Favorites menu in Encarta Virtual Globe 99, click Organize Favorites.
  2. When the Favorites window opens, click the As Web Page command on the View menu to remove the check mark from beside the command.
  3. Close the Favorites window.

In Encarta Virtual Globe 99, you can add shortcuts to articles, images, maps, and other content to the Favorites menu. Microsoft Windows Explorer can display previews of shortcuts to Encarta Virtual Globe 99 articles and images in the Favorites folder, but it cannot display a preview of a shortcut to an Encarta Virtual Globe 99 map.

If you double-click a shortcut in the Encarta Virtual Globe 99 Favorites folder, Encarta Virtual Globe starts automatically.
