DirectX Information Tool Reports Wrong Amount of Video Memory (198037)

When you use the DirectX Information (Dxinfo.exe) tool to view the amount
of memory on your video adapter, the wrong value may be reported.
CAUSE
This problem can occur if Microsoft DirectX 5.0 is installed in your
computer. DirectX 5.0 reports video memory only in 2-megabyte (MB)
increments.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:
- Install Microsoft DirectX 6.0. For information about how to do so,
please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 98.
