NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate Workgroup/Other option. This option enables you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook, you should see "Corporate" if you have the Corporate Workgroup installation.

SUMMARY

Microsoft has released three generations of object models for providing extensions to messaging functionality in advanced messaging environments. These models, from oldest to most current, are OLE Messaging, Active Messaging, and Collaboration Data Objects (CDO).

Object models, such as those listed in the Summary section of this article, consist of code support libraries for developing custom messaging applications and solutions with Visual Basic or Visual Basic Scripting Edition (VBScript) code. These products are available from various sources depending on the generation.

NOTE: Outlook must be installed using the Corporate or Workgroup installation option, and it must be set in Microsoft Internet Explorer as the default e-mail application. To do this:
  1. Right-click the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, and then click Properties.
  2. On the Programs tab, click Microsoft Outlook in the E-mail list.
  3. Click OK to close the dialog box.
