PRJ: Gantt Bars Not Rounded to Full Minor Timescale Unit (197552)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, in a Gantt Chart view, Gantt bars may not be drawn across the full timescale unit (days for example).

CAUSE

This problem may occur as a result of either of the following causes.

Cause 1

The working time in the project calendar or a resource's calendar (on the Tools menu, click Change Working Time) is different than the project's Default Start Time and Default End Time (on the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Calendar tab).

Cause 2

The Round Bars To Whole Days option is turned off. This option specifies that you want durations that are less than the minor timescale unit to be extended (or rounded) to the full unit. This affects only the appearance of the bar, not the actual duration.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use the appropriate method for your situation.

Workaround for Cause 1

Change the Default Start Time and Default End Time for the project to match your project calendar's Start and Finish times. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Change Working Time. Note the Start and Finish times of the project calendar. Click OK.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Calendar tab.
  3. On the Calendar tab, change the Default Start Time to the earliest time of the project calendar.
  4. On the Calendar tab, change the Default End Time to the latest time of the project calendar.
  5. Click OK.

Workaround for Cause 2

Turn on the Round Bars To Whole Days option. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the Format menu, click Layout.
  2. Click to select the Round Bars To Whole Days check box.
  3. Click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
