SUMMARY

This article describes how to use the Savings Bond wizard on the Bureau of Public Debt Web site to track the value of your United States savings bonds in Microsoft Money.

MORE INFORMATION

A United States savings bond is a security issued by the United States Department of the Treasury, Bureau of Public Debt. This security accrues interest until you cash it or it reaches the maturity date which occurs 30 years after the bond was issued. Because interest rates change with each accrual period and interest accrues monthly or biannually, you need a table issued by the government to track the value of the United States savings bonds you own.

The Bureau of Public Debt has created a Savings Bond wizard to track the value of United States savings bonds. You can use the Savings Bond wizard to determine the current redemption value, view the earned interest, and print the inventory of the United States savings bonds you own.

You can download the Savings Bond wizard from the following Bureau of Public Debt Web site: To track the value of your United States savings bonds, use the Savings Bond wizard to calculate the current value of your savings bonds, and then use Money to create a cash account named Savings Bonds. When you are prompted for the opening balance, type the current value of the savings bonds you receive from the Savings Bond wizard.

To update the value of your savings bonds, balance the account to match the current value of the savings bonds you receive from the Savings Bond wizard.
