OL2000: Cannot Add Holidays to a Calendar Subfolder (197415)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q197415

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Outlook, if you select a calendar created as a subfolder of the main Outlook calendar and import holidays, the events are always imported into the main calendar. This will result in duplicates if the holidays are already in the main calendar.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design. Outlook processes reminders for events and appointments in the main calendar folder, and only imports holidays into the main calendar folder.

RESOLUTION

After importing the holidays into the main calendar, copy them to the subfolder as follows:

  1. From the main calendar folder's View menu, point to Current View, and click By Category.
  2. Click to select the "Categories: Holiday" bar and drag it to the subfolder.

NOTE: This will move the holidays to the subfolder. To copy them to the subfolder, right-click the "Categories: Holiday" bar, and click Copy on the shortcut menu after dropping it on the subfolder.
NOTE: Outlook will not process reminders for appointments in this subfolder unless they are also created in the main calendar folder.
