FIX: DTSRun: Package Reports False Success with User Password (197385)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q197385
BUG #: 53390 (SQLBUG_70)
SYMPTOMS
If you run a Data Transformation Services (DTS) package using the user
password instead of the owner password, DTSRun will not report a failure
unless the package is set to fail on the first failed step.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the user does not have permission to read the
package status after it is run. This is not the case if it is scheduled
with an owner password. This can be easily seen if the package is
scheduled, but also happens in a batch job if you look for errorlevel after
the run.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, set the DTS package to report a failure on the
first failed step, by doing the following:
- Open the Package Designer window for the package.
- On the Package menu, click Properties.
- In the Error Handling section of the DTS Package Properties dialog box, click to select the Fail Package On First Error check box.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 1 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0.
