PRJ: Outline Levels Lost When Dragging Summary into Subtasks (197333)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 2000
  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q197333

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you drag to move a summary task, the outline structure of the summary task and subtasks may be lost.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you apply a task filter and then drag a summary task between its own subtasks.

When you place a summary task between two of its subtasks, a logical outline structure cannot be maintained because a task cannot be both a summary task and its own subtask.

WORKAROUND

To correct this problem after it has occurred, re-create the original outline structure.

To avoid this problem, do not move a summary task between two of its subtasks.

NOTE: To show all of the subtasks that belong to a summary task, filter the project with the All Tasks filter.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
