This article was previously published under Q197283

SYMPTOMS

When you print an e-mail message in Microsoft Outlook, the message appears paginated differently than when you view it in Print Layout view.

CAUSE

You are using Microsoft Word as your e-mail editor and the Print Layout View does not consider the message header included when you print the message from Outlook.

RESOLUTION

Use Print Preview in Outlook to see how the message will look when printed. To view the message in Print Preview, follow these steps:

  1. Click to select the e-mail message but do not open it.
  2. On the File menu, click Print Preview.
This displays your e-mail text with header information as it will look when printed. You must print it from Print Preview with the message closed to have it print as shown in Print Preview.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Open a multiple-page message in Outlook while using Word as your e-mail editor.
  2. On the View menu, click Print Layout.
  3. Adjust the text to place the page break at a specific line.
  4. Print the message.
The printed message does not break at the specified line because it contains the message header.
