Unable to group items by subject (197271)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Outlook 2000
- Microsoft Outlook 2002
- Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
This article was previously published under Q197271 SYMPTOMSWhen you group items by subject in Microsoft Outlook, the items may not appear in the same group.
For example, two e-mail messages with the same subject appear in two
different groups when grouped by the Subject field.
CAUSE
The subject of one of the items may contain extra or trailing spaces.
Grouping does not allow for any differences in the grouped field.
RESOLUTION
If the items you are grouping are replies, as in a message thread, you can
successfully group them by conversation. If the items are independent of
each other (not a message thread) use either of the following methods to
group the items:
- Edit the items, removing extra spaces from the Subject field. Make
sure you save changes to each item you edit.
- Create and apply a category to each item, and then group by the
category.
