PRJ: Merged MPX File Loses Outline Levels (197107)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you open and merge a file in the MPX 4.0 (*.MPX) file format, all merged tasks may be at the first outline level.

NOTE: This can also occur with any file that is not in the Project (*.MPP) format.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you use the FileOpen method to open and merge a file in the MPX 4.0 (*.MPX) file format and the Merge argument is set to PJMerge or PJAppend.

For example, if you edit a toolbar button and change the Command line to: 

   FileOpen Merge:=pjMerge.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed at the beginning of this article.
