The following illustrates the effect of dragging a file from another
program such as Excel or Word, into the various Outlook folders.
Dragging a File to the Inbox Folder
Default action using the left mouse button:
Creates a new mail message with the file as an attachment.
Options using the right mouse button:
- Send With Attachment - Creates a new mail message with the file as
an attachment.
- Send With Shortcut - Creates a new mail message with a shortcut to
the file.
- Copy - Creates a copy of the file in the folder.
- Cancel - Cancels the operation.
Dragging a File to a New Folder Containing Mail Items
Default action using the left mouse button:
Creates a copy of the file in the folder.
Options using the right mouse button:
- Copy - Creates a copy of the file in the folder.
- Cancel - Cancels the operation.
Dragging a File to the Outbox Folder
Default action using the left mouse button:
Creates a copy of the file in the Outbox folder.
Options using the right mouse button:
- Copy - Creates a copy of the file in the Outbox folder.
- Cancel - Cancels the operation.
Dragging a File to the Sent Items Folder
Default action using the left mouse button:
Creates a copy of the file in the Sent Items folder.
Options using the right mouse button:
- Copy - Creates a copy of the file in the Sent Items folder.
- Cancel - Cancels the operation.
Dragging a File to the Calendar Folder
Default action using the left mouse button:
Creates a new appointment item with a shortcut to the file.
Options using the right mouse button:
- Copy Here as Appointment with Shortcut - Creates a new appointment
item with a shortcut to the file.
- Copy Here as Appointment with Attachment - Creates a new appointment
item with the file as an attachment.
- Cancel - Cancels the operation.
Dragging a File to the Contacts Folder
Default action using the left mouse button:
Creates a new contact item with a shortcut to the file.
Options using the right mouse button:
- Copy Here as Contact with Shortcut - Creates a new contact item with
a shortcut to the file.
- Copy Here as Contact with Attachment - Creates a new contact item
with the file as an attachment.
- Cancel - Cancels the operation.
Dragging a File to the Journal Folder
Default action using the left mouse button:
Creates a new journal entry with a shortcut to the file.
Options using the right mouse button:
- Copy Here as Journal Entry with Shortcut - Creates a new journal
entry with a shortcut to the file.
- Copy Here as Journal Entry with Attachment - Creates a new Journal
Entry with the file as an attachment.
- Cancel - Cancels the operation.
Dragging a File to the Task Folder
Default action using the left mouse button:
Creates a new task with a shortcut to the file.
Options using the right mouse button:
- Copy Here as Task with Shortcut - Creates a new task with a shortcut
to the file.
- Copy Here as Task with Attachment - Creates a new task with the file
as an attachment.
- Cancel - Cancels the operation.
Dragging a File to the Notes Folder
Default action using the left mouse button:
Creates a new note with the path and file name as text.
Options using the right mouse button:
- Copy Here as Note with Text - Creates a new note with the path and
file name as text.
- Cancel - Cancels the operation.
Dragging a File to the Deleted Items Folder
Default action using the left mouse button:
Creates a copy of the file in the folder.
Options using the right mouse button:
- Copy - This function does not work.
- Cancel - Cancels the operation.
