XCON: MTA Stops with a Database Server Internal Processing Error (196852)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.0
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5

This article was previously published under Q196852

SYMPTOMS

The message transfer agent (MTA) stops with a database server internal processing error. Before the MTA stops, it issues the following event in the Ev0.log:
Message NMI2051: Internal Processing Error, severity 16

(BASE RTSE(47) Proc 70) mm-dd-yy hh:mm:sspm
Illegal get from element 5CE90801 at offset 102

The element address and offset in the event may vary, but the thread in question is always RTSE.

CAUSE

The MTA stopped because it had received a truncated checkpoint on this association from the peer MTA, and this error was treated as unrecoverable.
