OL2000: Cc and Subject Fields Are Missing, No Body in Office Document (196736)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q196736

SYMPTOMS

The Cc and Subject fields are missing, and in a new Office document, there is no place to type information (on the File menu, point to New, and click Office Document).

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the option to view message headers is turned off, and you click "Send the document to someone" while creating the Office document.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, turn on the Message Header option before creating the new Office document. This is a toggle option; you either turn it on or off, depending on the current state. To turn on the Message Headers option so you can edit the Office document, follow these steps:

  1. On the File menu, point to New, and click Mail Message.
  2. In the new message, on the View menu, click Message Header.
  3. Close the message.
The Message Header option should now appear selected to indicate that the option is on.

MORE INFORMATION

The message header is the part of the mail message that includes the Message and Option tabs, the Cc and Bcc address lines, and the Subject line. In a typical mail message, the body of the message is visible and you can type in it, even when the message header is turned off.

However, if you create a new Office document and click "Send the document to someone," the body of the message will not be available if the message header is turned off.
