PRB: Mobile Channel Requires Unique ID in Top CHANNEL Element (196651)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows CE Services 2.1
- Microsoft Windows CE Services 2.2
This article was previously published under Q196651 SYMPTOMS
Users are not able to see updates or subscribe to your mobile channel.
CAUSE
Every mobile channel requires an ID for the top level CHANNEL item. This
ID, not the URL for the CDF file, makes the channel distinct from every
other mobile channel.
RESOLUTION
Generate the top level ID for your mobile channel so that it is very likely
to be unique.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
MORE INFORMATION
There are a variety of techniques for selecting a unique identifier. The
technique you choose should reflect how widely you expect to distribute
your mobile channel.
If you choose to distribute your mobile channel to the World Wide Web, you
might want to choose an ID based on either your Web site's domain name, or
on a Globally Unique Identifier (GUID). You can use the GUIDGEN utility
included with many Microsoft Developer Tools to create a GUID.
If your clients can only subscribe to mobile channels on your corporate
intranet, then your choice simply needs to be different from any other
mobile channel on your intranet.
