OL2000: (CW) Access Violation Using Lotus cc:Mail Transport (196623)

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate Workgroup/Other (CW) option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate" if you have the Corporate Workgroup installation.

SYMPTOMS

When starting Microsoft Outlook under Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, you may receive an access violation.

CAUSE

You are using the Lotus cc:Mail transport rather than the "Microsoft Outlook Support for Lotus cc:Mail."

RESOLUTION

Remove the Lotus cc:Mail transport and add the "Microsoft Outlook Support for Lotus cc:Mail."

Remove the Lotus cc:Mail Transport

  1. Click Start, point to Settings and click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Mail (or Mail and Fax) icon.
  3. On the Services tab, click to select Lotus cc:Mail. Click Remove and click OK.

Install the Current VIM Files

You must have the latest 32-bit VIM (vendor-independent messaging) files. Microsoft does not provide these files. If you use Windows NT and have not previously installed a 32-bit version of Lotus cc:Mail, these files may not be present in your \WINNT\SYSTEM32 folder. They are available for download at:

Download the file Vdlw32.zip, which contains the necessary 32-bit VIM files. Unzip Vdlw32.zip and copy these files to your \WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory.

Add the Microsoft Outlook Support for Lotus cc:Mail to Your Profile

  1. Click Start, point to Settings and click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Mail (or Mail and Fax) icon.
  3. On the Services tab, click Add.
  4. Click to select the Outlook Support for Lotus cc:Mail service and click OK.
  5. Enter all the information requested to configure the cc:Mail service. By default, the postoffice is located in the \Ccdata folder. Contact your administrator if you are not sure of the postoffice folder name.
  6. During installation of the service, you may receive the following message:
    Unable to find cc:Mail program directory. Do you want to find it now or work offline?
    Click Find It Now, and specify the location of the program files. This folder is either \Ccmail or \Lotapps\Ccmail.
  7. To enable all the Outlook functionality with cc:Mail, click the Delivery tab and click to select the "Send using Microsoft Exchange rich text format" check box.
