SYMPTOMS

When you log on to a POP3 client to send or receive messages, you may be repeatedly asked for your user name and password. If you click Cancel in the log on dialog box, you will receive the following information in the error log:
There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: '<mailbox name> mail', Server: ',<MCIS Server Name>', Protocol:POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Permission denied for '<mailbox name>',,Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92.
NOTE: <mailbox name > denotes the user's mailbox name on the MCIS Server <MCIS Server Name> denotes the name of the MCIS Server.

CAUSE

If the member's container is broken down into subcontainers, and the mailbox your attempting to log on to is located in a subcontainer, you need to qualify the user by specifying the subcontainer. This is similar to specifying <domain>\<username> in Windows NT. This is the basic functionality of the membership directory.

RESOLUTION

In the POP3 client, type the name of the subcontainer followed by a backslash and the user's mailbox name.

For Example: You would need to log on by typing the following:

texas\dan

When the membership directory is setup like:
o=COMPANY
    ou=members
         ou=texas
              cn=dan
              cn=joeuse
              ...
         ou=Austin
              cn=someuser
              ...
         ou=someothersite
              cn=yetanotheruser
              ...
