Unable to Use Novell NetWare Network Resources (196302)

When you try to log on to a Novell NetWare version 4.01-based server, you
may receive the following error message:
NetWare Security Message
The system could not log you into the network.
Make sure your name and connection information is correct, then type
your password again.
Also, you may be unable to use any of your NetWare network resources.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if you uninstall the Novell NetWare Workstation Shell
4.0 (VLM) while Windows was running in safe mode, and then reinstall it
while Windows is running in normal mode.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, edit some of your system files. To do so, use the
following steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type "sysedit" (without quotation marks) in the
Open box, and then click OK.
- Locate the "rem c:\windows\odihelp.exe" line, and delete "rem" from
this line. For example, when you finish the line should look like this:
- On the File menu, click Save, and then quit System Configuration
Editor.
- Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
- In the Named box, type "startnet.bat" (without quotation marks), and
then click Find Now.
- Right-click the Startnet.bat file, and then click Edit.
- Locate the following lines, and delete "rem" from these lines:
rem c:\nwclient\lsl.com
rem c:\nwclient\<network card driver>.com
rem c:\nwclient\ipxodi.com
rem c:\nwclient\vlm.exe
For example, when you finish, these lines should look like this:
c:\nwclient\lsl.com
c:\nwclient\<network card driver>.com
c:\nwclient\ipxodi.com
c:\nwclient\vlm.exe - On the File menu, click Save, and then restart your computer.
