Printers Virtual Folder Not Created When SPOOLER Is Restarted (196059)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

This article was previously published under Q196059

SYMPTOMS

When installing IIS on a Windows 2000 print server to enable Internet printing, a necessary virtual directory in IIS may not be created immediately. A restart of the SPOOLER service does not force the creation to take place. This may cause the computer to report an error when a request is made to http://%servername%/printers for a period of time until the SPOOLER service forces the update and creates the virtual directory in IIS.

CAUSE

This problem is because of new performance-related behavior in SPOOLER for Windows 2000.

RESOLUTION

The update may be forced to take place immediately by performing a SPOOLER related event such as printing, managing printer documents, or managing printer permissions either remotely or from the console.
