After making a scheduled connection to the Internet to send or receive
mail, Microsoft Outlook disconnects, even though you did not select
the "Hang up when finished sending, receiving, or updating" dialing option.
CAUSE
The mail account option, "Check for new messages every <n> minutes," is
designed to help you cut down on Internet connection charges. After each
scheduled connection completes its sending and receiving process, Outlook
terminates the connection.
RESOLUTION
Outlook honors the "Hang up when finished sending, receiving, or updating"
dialing setting when you initiate the connection manually from within
Outlook by clicking the Tools menu and then clicking Send and Receive.
NOTE: The Microsoft Outlook Details dialog box, visible during mail
download, has a check box entitled, "Hang up when finished. If this choice
is selected, it may override the setting in the Mail Format dialog box
mentioned above.
