PCMCIA SCSI Controller Is Disabled After Suspend and Resume (196009)

When you try to resume your computer from Standby or Suspend mode, your
Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) Small
Computer System Interface (SCSI) controller may stop responding. Also, if
you view this device in Device Manager, it may be listed as Disabled with
the following status:
The device cannot find any free Interrupt Request (IRQ) resources to
use (Code 12).
CAUSE
This problem can occur if your computer is resumed from Standby or Suspend
mode multiple times without being restarted, and the Drvwppqt.vxd file is
the Windows\System\Iosubsys folder.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, restart your computer, and then use either of
the following methods:
Method 1
Do not resume your computer from Standby or Suspend mode multiple times
without restarting your computer.
Method 2
Rename the Drvwppqt.vxd file, and then restart your computer. To do so,
use the following steps:
NOTE: Do not perform the following steps if you have a tape backup device
connected to a parallel (LPT) port on your computer.
- Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
- In the Named box, type "drvwppqt.vxd" (without quotation marks), and
then click Find Now.
- Rename all instances of this file by changing the file name extension.
To rename a file, right-click it, type the new file name, and then
press ENTER.
- Restart your computer.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 98.
