Direct Cable Connection Does Not Start (195710)

SYMPTOMS

If your computer is configured to be a Direct Cable Connection host, you may receive the following message when you start Direct Cable Connection:

   Direct Cable Connection
   Status:  Waiting for a guest computer to connect via <cable type>
   cable on <port>
				


The message continues to be displayed, and the guest computer may not be able to connect to your computer's resources.

If you have configured you computer to be the guest computer, you may not see the Direct Cable Connection dialog box at all.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if there are extra characters in the Target box on the Shortcut tab of the Direct Cable Connection shortcut.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove the extra characters from the Target box for the Direct Cable Connection shortcut:

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
  2. Double-click the Windows folder, double-click the Start Menu folder, double-click the Programs folder, double-click the Accessories folder, and then double-click the Communications folder.
  3. Right-click Direct Cable Connection, and then click Properties.
  4. On the Shortcut tab, remove any extra characters from the Target box so that the line reads as follows, and then click OK:

    C:\Windows\Directcc.exe
