OL2000: Send to Exchange Folder Inserts X.400 Address if Offline (195592)

SYMPTOMS

When you post a document from Microsoft Word or another Microsoft Office program to a Microsoft Outlook 2000 Exchange folder (Mailbox or Public Folder), such as your Inbox, the From field of the posted document in he Exchange folder displays an X.400 Display name such as:

/O=MICROSOFT/OU=NORTHAMERICA/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=<Mailboxname>

If you click reply to the message that you posted to your Inbox, you get an X.400 name on the From line of the original message in the body of the message, and also on the To line of the new message, such as:

/O=MICROSOFT/OU=NORTHAMERICA/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=nnnnn

CAUSE

You are running Outlook offline and posting the document to an Offline Store (ost) file.

RESOLUTION

Post the document to an Exchange folder while running Outlook online.

-or-

Post the document to a Personal Folders (pst) file while working offline and move the document to an Exchange folder after restarting Outlook online.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
