Works: Cannot Save Files with the Euro Symbol in the Filename (195403)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works for Windows 95, version 4.0
- Microsoft Works for Windows 95, version 4.0 4.0a
- Microsoft Works 2000
- Microsoft Works Suite 2000
This article was previously published under Q195403 SYMPTOMS When you attempt to save a Works for Windows file with a
Euro currency symbol in the filename, you may receive the following error
message: Cannot access the document <filename>.
The document may already be open or it may be a read-only document.
You may receive this error message even if you have downloaded and installed
the Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Euro Symbol update.
CAUSE This behavior can occur if you have an outdated version of
the Wksole32.dll file installed on your computer.
NOTE: This behavior does not occur in Microsoft Works versions 4.5 and
4.5a because these products install a later version of the Wksole32.dll file.
RESOLUTION Microsoft has created a self-extracting file named
Clip3.exe that contains an updated version of the Wksole32.dll file that
corrects this problem. To download this file, click on the filename listed
later in this section. CAUTION: Do not download this file if you have Works versions 4.5 or
4.5a. These versions of Works include a later version of Clip
Gallery and installing this update may prevent you from using clipart until you
remove and reinstall Works. To determine the version number of Works you are
using, follow these steps: - Start Works.
- Click the Works Tools tab, and then click any of the Works tools.
- On the Help menu, click About Microsoft Works.
The version number is displayed at the top of the About
Microsoft Works dialog box.
