SUMMARY

The presentation conferencing feature of Microsoft PowerPoint requires the Client for Microsoft Networks to be installed, in addition to TCP/IP. Presentation conferencing requires the client to be able to resolve the TCP/IP addresses to the NetBIOS names.

In Windows, presentation conferencing allows a user on one computer to show a slide show on other computers connected over a local area network (LAN) or over the Internet.

The Microsoft Office Resource Kit (ORK) incorrectly states that you must only have the TCP/IP protocol installed and file sharing enabled to run a presentation conference from Microsoft PowerPoint. In fact, file sharing is not required at all. Below are the correct requirements for PowerPoint Presentation Conferencing:
  • PowerPoint 97 or PowerPoint 95 and (if needed) a 97 to 95 converter Users with only the PowerPoint Viewer or an earlier version of PowerPoint cannot participate in the conference.
  • Windows 95 or Windows NT operating system PowerPoint for the Macintosh does not support presentation conferencing.

  • Network connection and correct networking protocol.
