OL2000: Using Word as Your E-mail Editor not Supported by PGP (195322)

SYMPTOMS

When using Microsoft Word as your default e-mail editor, you may receive the following error when opening an e-mail message:
Error getting text from message window.

CAUSE

You are using Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) 5.x and are trying to open an encrypted message with Microsoft Word as your default e-mail editor.



The PGP 5.0 ReadMe contains the following text:

   Using Microsoft Word as your editor in Outlook is not currently
   supported. The Exchange/Outlook Plug-in will not be available in
   Word.
				

RESOLUTION

According to the ReadMe file that comes with PGP 5.x, turning off Microsoft Word as your default e-mail editor will correct this problem.

MORE INFORMATION

PGP 5.x, installs a menu called PGP, and also adds toolbar buttons on the Standard toolbar for messages. Attempting to encrypt from the message window results in the error:
Error getting text from message window.
Attempting to decrypt from the message window of a encrypted message results in:

   Could not find any relevant PGP information in the message
